Key Features
The RDL DS-RLC10 is a stainless steel rotary optical encoder designed for remote level control of RDL VCA modules. It supports a single control point or multiple points, with up to ten remote control locations. This flexibility allows one model to serve systems requiring adjustment from one position or access from several positions.
The rotary control is paired with a visual display of the current operating level. The display remains bright during adjustment and dims afterward. The unit also powers up to the last level used, preserving the previous operating setting at startup. An integral 0 to 10 VDC ramp generator functions as an output in Master mode or an input in Slave mode.
The DS-RLC10 is intended for installations using RDL VCA modules that require remote level adjustment. It is suitable when one control location is sufficient, as well as systems that need access from multiple positions. Support for up to ten remote control locations provides a defined path for expanding control access without changing to a different control model.
It is also appropriate when users need a visible indication of the operating level rather than relying on knob position alone. The stainless steel configuration addresses installations specified for that finish, while black and white versions are also identified as available within the product range.
The optical rotary encoder, visual level display, and integral ramp generator combine control, indication, and 0 to 10 VDC interfacing in one device. Published rotation figures describe approximately five rotations from minimum to maximum during slow rotation without acceleration, three rotations at medium speed with acceleration, and one fast counterclockwise rotation. This gives the control defined behavior at different rotation speeds.
Last-level power-up behavior is especially useful when the previous operating level should be restored after startup. During use, the bright display makes the level readily visible; after the adjustment is complete, the display dims automatically.
The DS-RLC10 mounts in a standard US electrical box or in RDL WB- or SMB-series boxes. A cover plate is available separately. The listed device dimensions are 4.11 inches high by 1.31 inches wide, equivalent to 10.44 by 3.33 centimeters. Depth without the knob is listed as 0.98 inch or 2.49 centimeters. The source specification also lists an overall depth of 0.545 inch or 3.93 centimeters.
Power requirements are 24 VDC at 50 mA with a ground-referenced supply. The ramp connection operates from 0 to 10 VDC, serving as the Master-mode output or Slave-mode input. Two pulse outputs provide UP and DOWN signaling through open-collector outputs rated at 20 mA. These interfaces support integration with all RDL VCA modules.
Pulse duration ranges from a minimum of 500 uS to a maximum of 4 mS. The minimum interval between consecutive pulses is 500 uS. Together with the two open-collector pulse outputs and the 0 to 10 VDC ramp, these specifications clearly define the control signals available to the connected system.
The optical encoder provides the primary level-control interface. Its acceleration-related rotation behavior allows the published minimum-to-maximum travel to vary with rotation speed. The operating-level display supplies visual confirmation throughout adjustment, while automatic dimming changes the display state once adjustment has ended.
The DS-RLC10 brings several functions together: optical rotary control, an operating-level display, an integral ramp generator, last-level power-up, and support for as many as ten remote locations. Its compatibility with all RDL VCA modules also gives it a clearly defined integration range within RDL systems.
Unlike a control that communicates level solely through a fixed knob position, this model presents the operating level on its display. Brightness during adjustment and dimming afterward distinguish between active use and the period following a change. The stainless steel version also provides a specified finish option alongside the available black and white configurations.
The RDL DS-RLC10 is a focused remote level-control solution for RDL VCA installations. It combines multi-location capability, optical rotary operation, visual level indication, 0 to 10 VDC Master and Slave functionality, UP and DOWN pulse outputs, and last-used-level startup behavior. For systems requiring one or as many as ten remote control locations in a stainless steel configuration, its electrical, mounting, and control specifications provide a well-defined integration package.
