Key Features
The RDL TX-MVX is designed for installations in which a manual switch, open-collector output, or relay contact must change a video path. It supports two routing arrangements: switching two video sources to one common destination or routing one video source to one of two destinations. Its video inputs and outputs use ground-referenced BNC connections, and the module can be used in NTSC or PAL systems.
In its normal state, VIDEO A is connected to COMMON. When the TRIG terminal is pulled to ground, VIDEO A is disconnected and VIDEO B is connected to COMMON. Because the switch or control module can be located remotely from the TX-MVX, the video routing point does not have to be placed beside the operator control.
When integrated with compatible RDL modules, switching can be initiated in several ways:
The TX-MVX combines bidirectional routing flexibility with a straightforward control method. A high-quality RF relay performs the switching, while the TRIG input determines which video path is active. This arrangement supports a conventional manually operated switch, an open-collector control output, or relay contacts from other equipment.
Many RDL modules include an open-collector SLAVE control terminal that can operate the TX-MVX. This allows the video switch to become part of a larger RDL audio/video installation without requiring the switching action to be performed directly at the module. It can also operate individually when only a compact video-routing function is required.
The module requires ground-referenced 24 Vdc power at 30 mA. The recommended power supplies are the PS-24AS for the USA and the PS-24AX for international applications; the power supply is not included. Its specified ambient operating range is 10 degrees C to 55 degrees C.
Video connections are made through ground-referenced BNC connections. The control interface has a TRIG input current of 2 mA and an input threshold of 2 Vdc. With no trigger applied, the normal path connects VIDEO A to COMMON. Pulling TRIG to ground changes the relay state, connects VIDEO B to COMMON, and disconnects VIDEO A.
The same switching behavior can be used for a 2×1 arrangement or reversed for one-source-to-two-destination routing. RDL mounting accessories and additional RDL products may be combined with the TX-MVX as part of a complete audio/video system.
The TX-MVX uses a high-quality RF relay for the video switching function. Its defined normal and triggered states provide a clear routing sequence: VIDEO A is the default connection, while VIDEO B becomes active when TRIG is grounded. The inactive A path is disconnected during the triggered state.
Support for both NTSC and PAL systems makes the module applicable to either video system specified by RDL. Remote actuation also permits the control device and the video-switching module to occupy different locations within an installation.
The distinguishing feature of the TX-MVX is its combination of two-way routing flexibility and multiple control choices. It is not limited to a front-panel switching action or a single control accessory. Manual contacts, open-collector outputs, relay contacts, detection modules, logic-control modules, sequencing equipment, and listed wall controls can all provide the switching command.
Its ability to work as either a two-input, one-output switch or a one-input, two-output router also allows the same model to address two common signal-routing arrangements. The default-to-VIDEO-A behavior provides a specifically defined normal path before the trigger changes the connection.
The RDL TX-MVX is a focused BNC video-routing module for NTSC or PAL installations requiring manual or remotely actuated switching. It is particularly appropriate when VIDEO A must remain connected to COMMON under normal conditions and grounding a control terminal must select VIDEO B instead.
