Key Features
The RDL SAS-HC8 is a headphone control and listening station designed for exercise equipment, countertops, handlebars, support pipes, and other compatible flat or tubular mounting locations. It gives the listener direct access to source selection and volume adjustment through protected momentary controls. A red 7-segment LED identifies the selected channel, while separate 1/4-inch and 1/8-inch headphone jacks accommodate either standard or mini headphone plugs. The station is housed in a rugged metal enclosure with RDL ULTRASTYLE™ design.
The SAS-HC8 is suited to installations where an individual listener needs convenient control over a multi-channel audio system. Its stated applications include exercise equipment and countertop placement. The included mounting bracket and clamps also support installation on handlebars, support pipes, flat surfaces, and compatible tubing. Channels 1 through 8 can be selected from the station, while the display uses 0 to indicate off or Paging. This arrangement keeps source and level controls within reach of the listener.
Three protected momentary buttons provide channel SELECT, volume ramp UP, and volume ramp DOWN functions. The replaceable buttons are protected by moisture-resistant polycarbonate, and the sealed touch-control construction helps protect the internal circuitry. Volume changes follow a nominal five-second ramp for a 40 dB audio-level adjustment, allowing level changes through dedicated up and down controls. When headphones are left disconnected, the station automatically reduces the volume to a safe level. This feature prepares the listening level before the next headphone connection without requiring a separate manual reset.
A bracket with clamps is included. The station can mount to a flat surface or to tubing measuring from 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) to 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter. These mounting provisions support placement on a tabletop, exercise-equipment structure, handlebar, or support pipe within the specified size range. System connection is made through a six-position detachable terminal block. DC control signals use the RAMP and CONTROL conductors between the remote listening station and its controller. Installers can reference the provided specification-sheet PDF and the listed American DXF engineering functional block and front-panel diagram formats.
The SAS-HC8 covers a frequency range of 50 Hz to 35 kHz with a stated tolerance of ±1 dB. THD+N is specified at less than 0.1% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, measured at 1 kHz. Its amplified output is rated at 200 mW RMS into 100 Ω and is adjustable when the normal system audio-input operating level is applied. Two headphone connections are provided: a 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) jack and a 1/8-inch mini jack. The red 7-segment LED provides immediate channel-status information, showing 1 through 8 for the selected channel and 0 for off or Paging. The specified ambient operating range is 0° C to 55° C.
The SAS-HC8 combines source selection, ramped volume control, headphone amplification, and channel indication in one remote listening station. Its two headphone-jack sizes reduce the need to standardize every connected headphone on a single plug format. The replaceable controls, moisture-resistant polycarbonate protection, sealed touch-control design, and rugged metal enclosure address the physical demands of equipment-mounted or countertop operation. Its included hardware further distinguishes the unit by supporting both flat-surface and tubular installations without requiring one fixed placement method.
For an RDL listening system that requires local selection among eight channels, direct volume adjustment, and flexible headphone connectivity, the SAS-HC8 provides the necessary user controls in a mountable metal station. Its 200 mW RMS amplified output, dual jack formats, protected replaceable buttons, visible channel display, and included bracket and clamps make its capabilities and installation requirements clearly defined. Automatic volume reduction after headphones remain disconnected adds a specific level-management feature for shared listening applications.
