Key Features
The Williams AV IR SY2 is a small-area infrared listening system designed for two users. It is suited to small-area assistive listening applications and private TV listening, where two people need individual receivers rather than relying entirely on room audio. The system comes with two body-pack receivers and a charger, creating a focused package for shared listening.
Each receiver includes a dual-lens detector and a 3 ft lanyard, allowing it to be worn around the neck. Independent ON/OFF/VOLUME controls let each listener select a comfortable output level. Four-position channel selectors provide access to channels operating at 2.3, 2.8, 3.3, and 3.8 MHz.
The IR SY2 combines two receivers with a two-unit charging solution. Each charging bay has its own red LED, which remains illuminated while charging. The charger has a nominal charging time of 16 hours and supplies 100 mA per bay. Its black ABS enclosure measures 4-7/8 in L x 3-7/8 in W x 2 in H, and the listed shipping weight is 1.1 lbs.
Receiver power can come from two AA alkaline batteries or two NiMH batteries. Listed battery life is up to 60 hours with alkaline batteries and 30 hours per charge with NiMH batteries. Nominal battery drain is 25 mA, supporting extended listening sessions without complicated power requirements.
The body-pack format provides a straightforward wearable setup. Attach the 3 ft lanyard, connect compatible headphones or earphones, turn the receiver on, select the desired channel, and adjust the thumbwheel volume control. The 3.5 mm stereo mini phone jack accepts either a mono or stereo 3.5 mm phone plug.
Compatible listening devices have an impedance of 8 to 32 ohms. Listed Williams AV options include the HED 021, HED 026, EAR 013, EAR 014, EAR 022, and NKL 001. Receiver charging contacts are specified for use only with the CHG 3512. The receiver measures 4.1 in L x 2.85 in W x 1.2 in H and operates in temperatures from 10 degrees C to +50 degrees C.
The four receiver channels use carrier frequencies of 2.3 MHz, 2.8 MHz, 3.3 MHz, and 3.8 MHz. Electrical frequency response is rated from 25 Hz to 16 kHz at +1 dB, -3 dB, with total harmonic distortion below 1 percent. The listed signal-to-noise ratio is at least 60 dB, while receiver squelch mutes the output at a 28 dB signal-to-noise ratio.
FM deviation is rated at plus or minus 50 kHz, with 50 microsecond de-emphasis. Maximum audio output power is 15 mW at 32 ohms. Listed acoustic output reaches 125 dB SSPL90 with the HED 021 or 110 dB SSPL90 with the EAR 013. These specifications provide concrete performance references when matching the receiver with supported listening accessories.
This model is organized around two listeners from the outset. Both users receive the same body-pack format, four-channel selection, wearable lanyard, and individual volume adjustment. The accompanying charger accommodates two units and provides a separate charging indicator for each bay, making the status of both positions visible.
The receivers also provide flexibility between readily available alkaline AA batteries and rechargeable NiMH batteries. Compatibility with mono or stereo headphones and earphones through a standard 3.5 mm connection gives users multiple listed listening-device options without changing the receiver interface.
The Williams AV IR SY2 is a purpose-built choice for small-area assistive listening or private TV listening for two. Its defining features are two wearable receivers, four selectable infrared channels, individual volume controls, support for 8-32 ohm listening devices, and a two-unit charger with per-bay indicators. Long listed AA battery runtimes and clearly specified receiver audio performance make the system practical to evaluate for compact two-listener applications.
