Key Features
The RDL HR-UDC1 is a universal digital audio converter for data conversion between S/PDIF and AES/EBU and electrical conversion among professional digital audio formats. Its input and output connection sets each include 110 Ω AES/EBU on XLR, optical S/PDIF, 75 Ω coaxial S/PDIF on a phono jack, and 75 Ω AES-3ID on BNC. It supports 16- to 24-bit operation at sample rates from 32 kHz through 192 kHz. Digital signal reclocking, transformer-isolated AES/EBU input and output, and operating-status indicators support stable integration and straightforward monitoring.
The HR-UDC1 is intended for professional environments where digital audio equipment must be interconnected across different electrical formats and connector types. It can bridge an AES/EBU XLR source to equipment using optical S/PDIF, coaxial S/PDIF, or AES-3ID, as well as accommodate conversion in the opposite direction. Its range of supported resolutions and sample rates makes it suitable for systems working with 16-, 20-, or 24-bit digital audio at rates from 32 kHz to 192 kHz. It is particularly relevant when format compatibility, signal lock supervision, and accessible status information are required within a digital audio distribution system.
The HR-UDC1 combines four commonly used digital audio interfaces in one unit. Both the input and output sides provide AES/EBU, optical S/PDIF, coaxial S/PDIF, and AES-3ID connectivity. The AES/EBU XLR connections use 110 Ω interfaces and transformer isolation, while the coaxial S/PDIF phono jack and AES-3ID BNC connections use 75 Ω interfaces. Compliance with AES3-2003 and IEC60958 provides a defined standards basis for integration. The rear-panel output format selector gives the installer direct control over the required output format.
RDL also equips the converter with its exclusive Sure-Lok™ Auto-Recovery Sentinel. Sure-Lok supervision monitors possible causes of latch-up and reinitiates digital signal lock. This feature is designed to bring a high level of stability to digital audio distribution under the range of conditions encountered in professional environments.
Connect the source through the appropriate 110 Ω AES/EBU XLR, optical S/PDIF, 75 Ω coaxial S/PDIF phono, or 75 Ω AES-3ID BNC input. The destination can use the corresponding selection of output connections, with the desired output format set from the rear panel. The unit requires ground-referenced 24 Vdc at 50 mA. The recommended power supply is the PS-24AS for the USA or the PS-24AX for international use; the power supply is not included.
The specified ambient operating range is 0° C to 50° C. Twelve indicators provide operating information: one POWER LED, two INPUT FORMAT LEDs, and nine sample-rate LEDs. The product description also identifies a digital signal lock indicator for each input format. An available PDF specification sheet supports system planning, while engineering functional-block, front-panel, and rear-panel files are identified in American DXF format.
The HR-UDC1 operates at resolutions from 16 to 24 bits and supports sample rates from 32 kHz through 192 kHz. Digital signal reclocking is included in the conversion path. Sample-rate indicators make the detected operating rate visible, while input-format and digital-lock indication provide immediate status information. Transformer isolation is applied to both the 110 Ω AES/EBU input and output. Together, these functions address format conversion, electrical interface compatibility, signal monitoring, and lock recovery within the same device.
The defining feature set is the combination of broad digital interface support and active recovery supervision. AES/EBU, AES-3ID, coaxial S/PDIF, and optical S/PDIF are available on both the input and output sides, reducing interface limitations when connecting differently equipped digital audio components. The exclusive Sure-Lok system goes beyond basic status indication by monitoring for possible latch-up conditions and reinitiating digital signal lock. Reclocking and transformer-isolated AES/EBU connectivity further distinguish the HR-UDC1 as a purpose-built converter for professional digital audio distribution.
The RDL HR-UDC1 is a focused solution for converting digital audio between AES/EBU, AES-3ID, and coaxial or optical S/PDIF formats. Its 16- to 24-bit, 32-to-192 kHz operating range, digital signal reclocking, transformer isolation, rear-panel output selector, detailed indicators, and Sure-Lok auto-recovery supervision provide a well-defined feature set for professional integration. A compatible 24 Vdc power supply must be selected separately.
