Key Features
The RDL DS-TPA1A is a stainless-steel Decora audio power amplifier designed for guest room audio systems and other installations requiring compact, locally adjustable speaker amplification. It drives a 4- or 8-ohm speaker and delivers up to 3.5 W RMS into 8 ohms or 6.5 W RMS into 4 ohms. Its combination of a Format-A input, front-panel level adjustment, and compact all-metal construction makes it well suited to systems where audio control and amplification need to be integrated into a Decora-format location.
This model combines a high-efficiency Class D amplifier with a VCA-based level control. The single-turn audio-taper adjustment provides level attenuation without routing the audio signal directly through a conventional control, supporting scratch-free operation and long service life. Turning the level to minimum activates an energy-saving sleep mode that consumes less than 0.3 W. Thermal and short-circuit protection further support dependable operation when the amplifier is installed as part of a permanent audio system.
The stainless-steel version provides the specified finish while retaining the ultra-compact metal construction used across the series. Its output is suitable for either 4- or 8-ohm speaker loads, allowing the installer to match the amplifier to the connected speaker while obtaining the corresponding rated output power.
The DS-TPA1A accepts RDL Format-A audio through an RJ45 connector. The same connection carries power from an RDL twisted-pair Format-A sender, reducing the number of separate connections required at the amplifier. A twisted-pair cable connects the amplifier to the compatible Format-A sender, while the speaker attaches through a detachable terminal block.
Product dimensions are 4.13 inches high, 1.7 inches wide, and 2.15 inches deep, equivalent to 10.49 by 4.32 by 5.47 cm. Recommended power supplies listed for the system are the PS-24AS for the USA and PS-24AX for international use. The specified operating environment is 0°C to 40°C maximum, with 20°C recommended. These requirements should be considered when planning the sender, power supply, cable path, speaker connection, and amplifier location.
Rated frequency response is 50 Hz to 20 kHz within ±1.5 dB. THD+N is specified at less than 0.1% at 1 kHz and 1 W, while common-mode rejection is greater than 50 dB from 50 Hz to 120 Hz. Maximum output is 3.5 W RMS into an 8-ohm load and 6.5 W RMS into a 4-ohm load.
Specified current consumption is 45 mA at idle, 95 mA when delivering 1 W into 8 ohms, 150 mA when delivering 1 W into 4 ohms, and 215 mA when delivering 3.5 W into 8 ohms. When the gain is set to minimum, sleep mode reduces power consumption to less than 0.3 W.
The DS-TPA1A brings together the amplifier, accessible level adjustment, and Format-A connectivity in an ultra-compact Decora design. Its RJ45 connection handles both input and power from an RDL Format-A sender, while the detachable terminal block provides a dedicated speaker output connection. This arrangement creates a clear separation between the twisted-pair system connection and the local speaker wiring.
Its VCA attenuator is another practical distinction. The control is designed for scratch-free adjustment and long life, and its minimum setting also serves as the trigger for sleep mode. Class D operation, all-metal construction, and built-in thermal and short-circuit protection complete a feature set focused on compact integrated audio installations.
The RDL DS-TPA1A is a focused solution for guest room audio and compatible RDL Format-A systems that need a stainless Decora amplifier with local level control. It supplies up to 3.5 W RMS into 8 ohms or 6.5 W RMS into 4 ohms, connects to a Format-A sender over twisted-pair cable, and powers a speaker through a detachable terminal connection. Its sleep mode, VCA adjustment, Class D design, and protection features provide a strong combination of efficiency, control, and installation practicality.
